2008 Loons
June 9th. Yeah we have a new edition to Bear Paw! The first baby
hatched late morning and we are still waiting on the second one.
Our nest is surviving the heavy rains and high water. The
natural nest on the south end of the lake has flooded and washed
out. There is only one pair still nesting for sure that we could
see on Sunday (8th). I am going out bright and early in the
morning to see if the second baby has hatched. Stay tuned.
June
10th; I went out early and Mama was still sitting there,
rechecking every half hour, should be soon. I headed out 8:40
(nothing at 8:30) and heard the parents making their parent
noises so I ran down and there was the 2nd baby just feet from
the nest. They are sooooo cute!!!! Enjoy the larger photos that
I took today. June 25th The babies are 2 weeks old
now and doing fantastic. It doesn't appear that any of the other
pairs had any babies on our lake. July 4th sad to
say that one of the babies ended up missing. Not sure if an
Eagle got it or something else. Aug 6th The baby
has just turned 8 weeks old now and has "her" new feathers, the
fuzzy ones are gone. She dives well and mimics her parents. We
still have all of the 4 couples on the Lake and also that group
of "intruder bachelor" loons that travel through in packs of 5-8
and create havoc are back.
